Every 6.7L Power Stroke Shop Should Be Doing This

Public Service Announcement from Holden Bros. Diesel: Weld the crank gear. Due to the crankshaft gear’s propensity to spin on the 6.7L Power Stroke (be it due to added horsepower and torque, or even a CP4.2 failure), a reputable shop should always TIG weld the gear to the crank to prevent it from ever happening. During a recent reseal of a 6.7L, Holden revealed that they now perform this task any time they have access to the front of the crankshaft. Going one step further, Holden disclosed that every reputable diesel shop should include this as standard operating procedure.

The 1,700hp Daily Driver

With 121 mph showing on the Drag strip, achieved with a density altitude of 6,200 feet, this 6,100-pound extended cab Silverado was pushing an estimated 1,700 hp the last time it obliterated the competition at an 1/8-mile no-prep event. UDT tuned by Blake Crenshaw, and with Exergy Performance, DHD, DP Customs, Industrial Injection, and No Zone Diesel all having a hand in its success, the Allison-backed LB7 Duramax is a real-life fire-breather. Soon, it’s coming back out, packing what Crenshaw hopes will be 2,000 hp. But wait, there’s more… The lightweight Chevrolet remains a true street truck, with over 340,000 miles having been accumulated over the years.

Seventy2 Fast Entry: Delaney’s Diesel

It goes without saying that the air-limited, fuel-only Seventy 2 Fast class race in June will likely favor the Cummins platform. For this reason, many V-8 competitors are thinking outside the box—and die-hard Duramax guru, Dante Delaney, is thinking way outside the norm for his Seventy 2 Fast build. But it just might work. Starting with a lightweight 2004 Silverado HD, he plans to drop a stock bottom end L5P Duramax in place and take advantage of the latest generation engine’s ability to handle big power in stock form—as well as capitalize on its high-flow cylinder heads. Delaney’s L5P-swapped ’04 will be backed by a 48RE transmission.

Midwest Winter Nationals

Cloverdale, Indiana was once again the site of winter’s biggest pulling party, with the Midwest Winter Nationals indoor truck and tractor pull going down over the weekend. Brian Shew’s “Iron Maiden” Dodge (shown), a perpetual front-runner out of the Quality Diesel Performance stable, qualified Second Place on Friday, sending him to Saturday night’s Limited Pro Stock (3.0) class final. In the final, it would be Tim Tuttle’s “Common Cents” Ram in the winner’s circle, with Jimmy Barclay behind the wheel. Barclay would be pursued by Adam Kincaid, who finished in the runner-up spot. Drew Slayback would end up third with his third-gen coined “Night Moves.”

Another Interesting Ford Patent: Navigation Guided Headlights

This one feels like the future done correctly: headlights that look at the route and aim accordingly. Ford’s reportedly filed a patent (filed July 15, 2024, published Jan 15, 2026) for navigation-influenced headlamp aiming. In the real world, that could mean beams that point into upcoming corners sooner, light junctions more effectively, and generally make night driving less of a guessing game. Ford’s already showcased GPS-driven predictive headlight concepts in Europe—so the building blocks exist. Now we wait to see if the patent turns into production hardware.

Bringing A ZF 8-Speed Conversion Kit To Market

Will ATS Diesel be the first to successfully offer an all-inclusive, plug-and-play ZF 8-speed swap for ’24 and older Cummins-powered Rams? In a recent video on social media, the Colorado-based ATS said as much, with company owner, Clint Cannon, even disclosing he and his team were in the final stages of finishing up the swap. According to Cannon, all that remains is finalizing the adapter plate required for the conversion. ATS already has the electronics side of things figured out, which is huge. Cannon went on to promise that the home of the Purple Palace would be the first in the industry to release a ZF 8-speed swap.
