Lights Out 17 had it all. Rain, wrecks, and records. Here’s one: the fastest side-by-side pass in door car history. After the precipitation moved out, Ken Quartuccio Jr.’s Procharged Camaro lit up the eighth-mile on Sunday with a (winning) 3.43-second blast at 214.76 mph—a new Radial vs The World (RVW) record. In Limited Drag Radial, Brett LaSala’s Coyote-powered Mustang (“Snot Rocket 3.0”) got the win with a 3.807 at 201.46 mph in the final. As for the diesel crowd, Rod MacMaster’s Cummins-powered C7 Corvette saw several new personal bests in RVW, followed by a minor brush with the wall, Justin Goode’s late-model Silverado competed in Pro Truck N/T and reportedly set a new 4x4 Duramax 1/8-mile record, and Paul Cato’s second-gen Cummins set several new personal bests, along with going straight down the track.

In 2015 about 11 million vehicles worldwide had emissions-cheating software, and the fallout had already cost the company more than €32 billion in refits, fines, and legal costs. Well,Dieselgate isn’t dead—it’s still punching VW in the face. Road & Track reports Volkswagen has been referred to criminal court in France on a deception-related charge tied to products allegedly endangering human/animal health, with an initial hearing set for December 18, 2026 and a full trial likely sliding into 2027. French prosecutors are also reportedly pursuing Renault and Stellantis-related entities in the same broader emissions deception case.

If you like the OG Hummer, following Predator Inc. on social media should be mandatory. The Southern California based H1 experts are renowned for their Duramax (and even Cummins) swaps—i.e. making the Hummer the type of powerful, diesel-powered beast it should’ve been from the factory. The example before you is one of Predator Inc.’s latest finished projects, and calibration wizard Kory Willis of PPEI was given the honor of fine-tuning the LBZ under the hood. According to Willis, these builds often require a few wild alterations in the tuning—especially the TCM.

The Turbo Diesel Registry recently weighed in on the latest news regarding the big 67A recall for late-model, Cummins-powered Ram trucks. Last Tuesday, Cummins Inc. announced a $500 recall incentive for ’13-’18 Ram 2500 and 3500 owners who complete the emissions recall at an authorized dealer. The $500 incentive reportedly stems from Cummins’ $1.675 billion settlement with the EPA back in 2023, where the engine manufacturer agreed that 85-percent of all effected trucks would have the recall performed by 2027. Likely facing further action (i.e. fines) if it fails to meet its quota, Cummins has apparently stepped up its efforts to lure ’13-’18 owners in for the software update, which is often summed up as a DEF-related reflash.

Thinking outside the box has its benefits—especially if it’s something that moves the entire industry forward. New Performance Engine’s latest creation, a 24-valve Cummins head that’s void of valve seats, has the potential to just that. The company’s new head design employs a tightly pressed in ductile iron puck. The precision fit puck incorporates all four valves per cylinder as well as a fire-ring groove. By going seatless, New Performance hopes to eliminate a key failure point in high-horsepower engines. Still in testing, heads can be had for 6.7L and 5.9L engines and will be available with or without the intake shelf, port work, and larger valves. Next comes testing on daily drivers…
