Mustang Sales Jump 22 Percent as the Pony Car Keeps Pulling Away

The Ford Mustang is having a better year than most people expected. Through the first half of 2026, Ford sold 28,725 Mustangs, a 22-percent increase over the same period last year. Ford also says the Mustang outsold its nearest non-premium sports-car competitor by roughly seven to one. Yep, seven to one. The Camaro is gone, the Challenger has changed direction, and buyers keep hearing that affordable performance cars are dying. Apparently, nobody told Mustang customers. The market may be shifting toward trucks, SUVs and electrification, but a rear-wheel-drive coupe with a V8 option is still high on buyers priorities.

The L5P Owner’s Worst Nightmare

Just when you thought L5P’s were indestructible, one pulls into the shop burning coolant and hazing uncontrollably. Thanks to Delaney’s Diesel for shining a light on what is apparently a growing concern among ’17-newer Duramax owners: cracked heads. That’s right, while the latest generation 6.6L can handle well north of 1,000 hp on 100-percent factory hard parts, it appears the sixth generation V-8 has a major weakness. Rumor has it GM is now on its fourth variation of cylinder heads for the L5P. Does the General know something we don’t? Casting flaw? Design issue? We’ll keep you posted.

New Trucks Winning In The Dirt

Painting the L5P in a more positive light, the folks at Green Handle Media discovered a mostly untouched ’25 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD cleaning house at the truck pulls in Iowa. Kane Becker piloted his dad’s nearly new Duramax to a win in the Stock Diesel class, a category that allowed street-driven trucks like Becker’s dual rear wheel Chevy to weigh as much as 9,000 pounds. Not only is the engine 99-percent stock, but so is the 10-speed Allison behind it. The truck’s M42 ECM is UDT tuned, and the TCM also benefits from a UDT file that keeps the converter locked in Sixth gear and 4-Low.

Team Jumping Jack Flash’s New Haisley Power Plant

Love it or hate it, the Jumping Jack Flash Pro Stock Ford is being reborn as a Cummins-powered Super Stock—and things are going well. With the brand-new, billet bullet from Haisley Machine in place between the frame rails, JJF’s reliability factor and chances of winning go up exponentially over the team’s former Power Stroke engine program. In recent weeks, hired gun, Cody Thomas, bolted the engine in place, mounted the Sandridge water to air intercooler and plumbed everything up. Then he set to work installing the triples. That’s right, when Jumping Jack Flash makes its return (soon) it will be a triple-turbo, Cummins-propelled monstrosity turning out 3,500 hp or so.

Chevy Finally Pairs Hands-Free Driving With the 3.0L Duramax

Been looking for a hands-free driving vehicle, but you don't want an electric vehicle, and spark plugs aren't allowed in your house? Well, Chevrolet is finally letting diesel buyers order one of its best technology features. For 2027, the Tahoe and Suburban High Country Deluxe Package can combine Super Cruise with the 3.0-liter LZ0 Duramax. Previously, High Country buyers wanting that package were pushed toward the 6.2-liter gasoline V8. The change (in our mind at least) makes a lot more sense for owners who rack up highway miles or tow. The Duramax produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque while delivering the range and fuel economy that make these big SUVs easier to live with. Hands-free highway driving no longer requires giving up the diesel.

Antitrust Settlement Forces ‘Deere To Offer Farmers The Same Tools As Dealers

For 10 years, anyway. Five states, in conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission, reached a landmark settlement in the antitrust lawsuit against Deere & Company. The settlement ensures that farmers can utilize their right to repair their own John Deere farm equipment. According to the settlement, for the next decade John Deere must provide farmers and independent repair shops with the same resources it employs to fix its machines. That includes the required software, which up until now has only been available at authorized John Deere dealers. But what happens at the 10-year deadline? Will farmers once again be locked out of working on their green farm equipment? Only time will tell.
